5G as the way forward for SMEs

“5G is more than a mobile revolution. It will promote innovation, make profound changes across industries and it will allow the development of new business models and high-quality services. The 5G infrastructure will become a business, in which Europe needs to play a dominant role”, said the SME Circle Board Member Michał Boni, EPP rapporteur for European Gigabit Society and 5G Action Plan.

The SME Circle of the EPP Group in the European Parliament adopted its own position paper on this topical subject. It lays out the crucial points and requirements for the implementation of 5G, in order for small businesses to succeed. These are the simplification of the legal framework, flexible models for co-investments, long-term certainty and predictability, involvement of all partners including smaller firms as well as a stimulus for the market demand.

The Chairman of the SME Circle Markus Pieper underlines the importance of 5G for SMEs: “The benefits for SMEs are twofold: On the one hand, they can profit by participating in the infrastructure development. On the other hand, smaller businesses will reap the benefits of the upgraded infrastructure. SMEs will be able to connect machines in real time and therefore, realize tailored solutions for the individual customer.”
